Judge Sylvain has worked in the Montgomery County courts for 30+ years. He currently serves as one of two Juvenile Court Judges.
Judge Sylvain received his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Dayton and studied law at the College of William and Mary.
His career is dedicated to supporting and protecting our community.
Meet Judge Nicholas Sylvain
Judge Nicholas Sylvain has steady judgment, legal depth, and the real courtroom experience that families deserve on the Juvenile Court bench. A University of Dayton graduate who earned his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering with honors before receiving his law degree from William & Mary, Judge Sylvain has more than thirty years of service in Montgomery County's justice system.
His career started as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney handling child support and paternity matters, felony criminal cases (including jury trials), and homicide cases. As Supervising Attorney of the Family Violence Unit, he coordinated a countywide domestic violence protocol, and prosecuted domestic violence cases and protection orders.
Judge Sylvain has served on the bench in Montgomery County courtrooms since 2002, handling sensitive issues facing local families. These issues include custody, parenting time, child support, domestic violence, and contempt matters. Judge Sylvain averages hundreds of decisions and cases each year.
Judge Sylvain's wife Tina is a University of Dayton graduate and a civilian employee at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Rooted in our local community, they actively volunteer with the March of Dimes, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, the Dayton Bar Association’s Wills for Heroes program, and Our Lady of Light Family of Parishes (including St. Francis of Assisi and Incarnation parishes).
Judge Sylvain and his wife Tina have been married for over 26 years and are long-time residents of Montgomery County.
